About

Your provider's background matters. Here's mine.

James Darden, PMHNP-BC — Founder of F10 Psychiatry

James Darden is a dual board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of F10 Psychiatry. He's one of the few providers in California with both psychiatric and acute care board certifications.

Trained at Yale University and Johns Hopkins University, James brings a rare combination of clinical depth and range to psychiatric care. Before entering psychiatry, he spent three years as a nurse practitioner in orthopedic surgery and arthroplasty — and before that, served as a firefighter and paramedic on California's Central Coast. He has published peer-reviewed research on sleep disorders, heart failure, and biomarkers through Yale's School of Nursing, and holds a Master Psychopharmacology certification from the Neuroscience Education Institute.

This background matters. When your provider has intubated patients in the field, managed post-surgical recovery, and then retrained at the nation's top psychiatric institutions — they don't just see symptoms. They see you. The stress your body carries. The medications that interact with each other. The full picture that a 15-minute med check will never capture.

Force 10 on the Beaufort scale is the threshold where conditions converge into something unstoppable. That's the standard — for the practice, and for the treatment you receive.

Why Force 10

F10 Psychiatry was founded on a simple conviction: the standard model of psychiatric care fails most people. Fifteen-minute med checks don't produce lasting change. Cookie-cutter protocols ignore the individual. And a system that makes you wait six weeks to be seen has already failed you before you walk through the door.

F10 is the counter-model. Evaluations are comprehensive. Treatment plans are precision-built. And the goal isn't just to manage your symptoms — it's to change your trajectory.

Outside the clinic, James lives on the Monterey Peninsula with his partner and two young children. He spends his free time kitesurfing, training jiu-jitsu, and reading philosophy.
